Community News - August 2002
With summer coming to a fast end and kids headed back to school what better time to get involved with your Gaylord Area Jaycees. There are some really great activities coming up in all areas of the chapter. If you've been waiting for that one project to spark an interest this is the time.
The Gaylord Area Jaycees has more to offer its members than just a gold star on the next resume they send out. It must. Im over 100 miles away from the chapter and I still make the time to drive down for meeting and chair projects.
Become active in the group you've joined, the worst that can happen is you'll meet new people and have a little fun.

Family Fright Night Update
By Mariah Passingham
Friday October 25th @7pm the third annual Family Fright Night will take place. If youve been waiting for that one project to come along that sparks your interests and gets you activated in the chapter, this is it. Family Fright Night planning started in June and its ready to rock and roll all it needs is you.
This project will require a LOT of time, from talking to area business and collecting donations from them to building games and creating the Haunted Hallway. These are some of the major tasks of the project but please dont be freighted there are so many smaller things that make up F.F.N. from stuffing goody bags to sending thank you notes and dont forget the running of games the night of.
Family Fright Night is the Gaylord Area Jaycees opportunity to impact hundreds of people in one night. From the 900 hundred people we anticipate to come through our doors on Friday night. (2001 brought just over 700) Individuals will receive the food donations taken at the door in the form of Kiwanis food baskets. The main fundraiser of Family Fright Night "The Duane Weiss Wish Tree Foundation" purchased gifts for more than 25 area children. The chapters goal is to be able to double the gifts this year.
Last but not least the chapter will propose a challenge to the area elementary schools (Gaylord, Elmira, Johannesburg, Vanderbilt and Wolverine) to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The class with the most pop tabs will receive a party from the Jaycees. Each school will also have a second place prize.
Please dont think that this project can wait till October for you to get involved, the sooner its up and running the less it will seem like work.
I will drive down from St Ignace on Sunday August 25th for a Family Fight Night committee meeting at B.C. Pizza on M-32 @7pm. Ill pay for
the pizza if youll show up.
